Western Digital My Book or the Linksys Media Hub
My laptop is about to explode due to both partitions being critically full, and I'm now looking at network storage devices in the 1 TB range. Currently I can't decide between the Western Digital My Book Studio and the Linksys Media Hub. I have compared them below:
Western Digital MyBook killer features
Available USB port, FireWire 800 or 400 port, eSATA port or eSATA adapter card
Ranges from 1 TB to 4 TB of storage
Claims to be ideal for video editing, rendering complex 3D objects or special effects and saving huge blocks of data in record time
User serviceable - easy to add and remove drives
Capacity gauge - visualises how full the drive is
Remote access
Aimed towards business users
I have access to the 1 TB model of this device at work and it seems to work well
LinkSys Media Hub killer features
The Media Hub is capable of streaming three simultaneous high-definition video streams (i.e. fast)
Remote streaming and downloads
Media card readers (useful for direct photograph import from camera)
2 easy acces hard-drive bays
Aimed towards home user
My network is already LinkSys based, so intergation should be a breeze
At the moment I'm leaning towards the LinkSys media hub since most of my file transactions will be through the wireless network and I trust LinkSys (a networking company) to have mastered this moreso than Western Digital (a storage company). What are your thoughts?
